August is our month ladies, a whole month dedicated to us! On 9 August 1956, more than 20 000 women from all walks of life united in a mass demonstration to the Union Buildings in Pretoria. They protested against the unjust pass laws enforced on women in South Africa.
Women’s month is an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on women’s achievements, as well as the problems we have faced in the struggle to be free and the important role we continue to play in society. Woman’s month is about empowering each other and gender equal rights.
Birchwood Hotel hosts an annual event celebrating woman in the corporate world and I was lucky enough to be part of it this year! An event that truly embodies and honors leading woman and boss ladies in all career aspects. I was sitting amongst woman that changed the face of what used to be “a male dominated” work fields and just in that alone, I felt pretty damn empowered! Queen B said it herself- “Who Run The World- GIRLS, GIRLS! ”
Birchwood Hotel really pulled out all the stops to celebrate woman, from a beautful red carpeted dressed saxophone goddess that welcomed us on arrival to topless waiters (eyecandy for the ladies of course) magic tricks and amazing arobatic aerial artists pouring champagne for us and to top it off the gorgeous Mangwanani ladies hosting mini pamper sessions! It was treat after treat that enduldged in all of our senses!
We watched in awe the amazing acrobatics that was happening above us while stuffing ouf faces with most delicious canapes.
We were then ushered into the gorgeous Phomolong restaurant and the new Boma to have lunch and enjoy the star studded line up we had waiting for us! PS: If you are looking for a venue for an occasion coming up- Phomlong is the way to go, it’s gorgeous!
The rest of the event consisted of amazing talents and celebraties such as Jason Greer as our MC, Steven Lee Lewis, former X Factor winner that had the ladies screaning at the top of thier lungs in excitement and the amazing motivational guest speaker Zipho Sikhakhane, who shared her inspiring story of growth from starting off with nothing to winning the Outstanding Young Achiever Award from UNESCO centre for Global Education in 2016. Talk about Girl Power!
Probably one of the best events I had attended this far purely because I was surrounded by woman I aspire to be. I felt empowered, strong and motivated to keep climbing to the top! Thank you Birchwood Hotel and Team for including me in such an amazing day!
Happy Woman’s Month to all strong woman!
May we know them,
May we be them,
May we raise them! – unknown
